Things Your Babysitter Shouldn’t Do
I started this post as a general checklist of things you should know or do when leaving your kid/s with a babysitter. But, instead, I decided to focus on what you shouldn’t let your babysitter do. Shorter lists are easier to remember, I daresay.
1. Don’t let your sitter cook while you’re not in the house. He/she may be the best chef in the world, but if watching the kids and getting dinner done are both on the agenda, there’s a chance that one (or both) will not get done well. Serve sandwiches instead.
2. Don’t serve grapes, hotdogs or popcorn, especially if at least one kid is less than 4 years old. These are the primary foods that cause choking in small children.
3. Don’t let your babysitter give baths. Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional deaths in children.
For a longer checklist (with do’s and don’ts) for leaving your kids with a babysitter, go to Samantha Critchell’s article in the Rocky Mountain News.

Hire a second sitter. I have a twin sister and for the longest time we were in charge of several children. It was quite easy because there was always the extra set of hands and it was easy to keep the children and out of the kitchen while being busy with a craft or something constructive.
There was always a hot meal for the kids, the kids never watched t.v becasue we wore them out with activities. A big tip is to make sure you and your babysitter both know CPR and first aid. Make sure your sitter know what they are doing. Invite them over one day to help watch you children while you attend to other tasks like laundry or cleaning.
