Keeping the Castle - Housekeeping & Homemaking Tips

The Housekeeper’s Supply Tote

by Maricar on March 27th, 2006

Cynthia Townley Ewer, author of the organizing book “House Works“, recommends the following essential cleaning tools stored in a portable container for cleaning around the house:

- A machine-washable cleaning apron with pockets
- Rubber gloves
- White cotton cleaning cloths
- Scrubbing sponge with an absorbent side and an abrasive side
- A squeegee with a rubber blade for mirrors and other glass surfaces
- A smooth metal or plastic scraper for dried gunk
- A tile brush with a handle and thick bristles
- A firm-bristle toothbrush for tiny spaces
- Squirt bottles for tile and bathroom cleaner
- A spritzing spray bottle for windows and other surfaces

I admit having one portable container with all the tools is not the way I clean. I prefer to have the essential cleaning items available in the bathroom, for example. But I do like to keep this list in mind for all-around house-cleaning.
