Starting a Household … the Bridal Registry

by Maricar on May 14th, 2006

Williams-Sonoma gifts

The next month of June is traditionally the marryingest month of the year. Couples who will tie the knot should already have completed their gift registries, if they’ll have them at all. This is to give their guests time to purchase gifts for the briday shower and, of course, the wedding.

It could be a challenge to merge two tastes into one. How will ultra modern mix with frilly traditional? The task becomes even more formidable for those who have no idea about what’s needed for a functioning household. Should they get wine glasses or not? A hand-held mixer or a fully-equipped model?

The Detroit Free Press followed engaged couple, Toya Holmes and Donald Cade, as they set up their gift registries at Target and Williams-Sonoma. Pick up some useful tips from their day of window shopping.

If you don’t have a plan, Target — as well other stores that have registries — has a list of items needed to establish a household. You can get ideas from that.

If you haven’t done any research on small appliances, or need to know the difference between this toaster oven and that one, you might have to rely on the expertise of the salespeople on the floor. Most often, they are not experts.

The article also has some do’s and don’ts of the gift registry, and 10 must-have items to list.
