Spring Cleaning Statistics
For people in the Northern Hemisphere, spring is just around the corner. And, with it, comes the yearly housekeeping ritual called spring cleaning.
A Spring Cleaning Survey of the Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) reveals American consumers’ cleaning habits and opinions about spring cleaning (and cleaning in general):
* 60% say spring is the best time to rid the house of dirt, clutter
* 98% feel good about themselves when their house is clean
* 54% of Americans prefer to clean on a daily or weekly basis
* 97% believe their families appreciate a clean home
I’m surprised that there’s even 2% of the population that doesn’t feel good about living in a clean environment. Do they like living in filth? But then, the survey’s margin of error is around 2.8 percent. So, maybe that 98% is really 100% (hopefully).
Regarding decisions about buying cleaning products:
* 40% describe themselves as “familiar” buyers, selecting only what they need and sticking with known products and brands.
* 22% claim to be “creative,” buying a variety of products to enhance their homes.
* “Advanced” purchasers (21%) buy both products they need and products they want, trying new items more frequently.
* Finally, “experimentals” (7%) always try what is new and more convenient.
If, like me, you’re curious about the cleaning patterns of other people, the following stats would be interesting:
* 54% prefer to clean on a daily or weekly basis
* 19% do not clean on a regular schedule, but when they do so, it is very thorough
* 18% said they find they always have a lot of clutter around the house
Key findings of the survey can be found here.
