Soup Recipes for Your Slow Cooker

by SP Bragg on December 2nd, 2008

Soup Recipes for Your Slow CookerToday is my turn to cook and I have all the ingredients chopped and ready to go. It’s going to be the first time I use our slow cooker and it looks easy enough. Fingers crossed. Here’s a few more recipes for both of us to try out! I will let you know how the split pea recipe turns out. Here’s a few more to try.

Black Bean Soup… I particularly love the bean soups because they are so filling, not to mention economical.

Laura’s Quick Slow Cooker Turkey Chili… I like the fact that low sodium soup has been added to this recipe and the allspice was an interesting addition.

Beef Barley Lentil Soup Love the fact that you can keep most of the dry ingredients on hand until you need them. Barley is going on my shopping list for next week.

*Update… actually I wrote this post last Monday (when it was my turn to cook ) and I have one piece of advice. Get to know your slow cooker. We’ve had ours for a while but I had never used it and had no idea what the settings meant. And you might not want to toss the instruction book!

And I had it set to the wrong setting… the split peas were crunchy lol…

Did you try the black bean soup yet? That one sounds really interesting.

I have a super easy fantastic French Onion soup.
Slice 4-5 large sweet yellow onions very thinly (Walla Walla, Vidalia, Maui), cook over very low heat on stove with a few tablespoons each of butter & olive oil until lightly browned, about 30 minutes (stir every few minutes); put onions in slow cooker, add 2 boxes (6-8 cups) beef broth and one sachet of fresh thyme (or use dried) and 1-2 shots of sherry or Marsala; cook on low 6-8 hours. Pour soup in bowls, tops with slice of sourdough or French bread topped with Gruyère or Swiss cheese, put under broiler until cheese is bubbly. Voilà!
