Review: Palmolive Gel Dishwasher Detergent

“Deep cleaning action for a sparkling shine.”

That was the promise declared on the bottle of Palmolive Gel Dishwasher Detergent (Lemon Clean Scent). I expected no less from this detergent, since it is made by Colgate-Palmolive, a company whose products I’ve come to know and trust over the years.

Unfortunately, this was one product that didn’t make the grade.

I tested this detergent over several loads of dishes. Almost always, little bits of food were left stuck on forks and glassware. Some of the plates had a film of something left on them. I felt that I had to pre-wash in order to get a thorough clean.

I wouldn’t have minded too much if I had to soak my dishes to get them clean. But what really sank the boat on this product was the smell it left on my glassware. I expected a lemon clean scent. Instead, it was a chemical aroma that I couldn’t identify. I could practically taste it on the water out of the glass. I couldn’t even drink out of it.

The bottle is still more than half full, but I’m not going to use this detergent anymore.
