Quick and Easy Tips for the Kitchen

Lemon slice

These are some of the little things I do to make kitchen tasks easier:

- This tip came from Gem (Thanks!): To freshen the microwave, nuke a slice of lemon with a little bit of water and baking soda for one minute.

- I keep a couple of wide rubber bands in my kitchen drawer for opening tight jars. Usually, one wrapped around the lid is enough. For more stubborn lids, another band wrapped around the jar provides extra grip. I get my rubber bands from bundles of broccoli I buy at the grocery.

- Since we’ve had anti-toddler safety locks installed in our cabinets, I keep an empty half-gallon on the kitchen counter as a mini-trash can. It catches small bits of garbage, like fruit peelings, and keeps me from having to open, close and lock the cabinets repeatedly throughout the day.
