Put Together a Decorating Tool Kit
I’ve heard of tool kits (hammers, screw drivers, drill and bits). But this is the first time I’ve heard of putting together a decorating tool kit.
In addition to real tools that can already be found in a regular tool kit, a decorating kit may include ideas, collections of decor materials, and references that make it easier to put together a cohesive and personalized look in any room. Having these materials in a cabinet or shelf is specially useful if you like to rotate your decor to match the seasons or a special event.
A basic decorating tool kit should contain:
a six-metre measuring tape and a smaller one to keep in your purse or car, hammer, screwdriver, mounting hardware, scissors, wire cutter, glue gun, floral Styrofoam; an “idea” file with photos, magazine clippings, and a wish list; fabric swatches, paint chips and measurements in an envelope for shopping trips or surprise “finds.”
In addition, you might want to put together:
Wired ribbons
Linens like unusual tablecloths, doilies, place mats, and runners
Baskets and vases in a variety of shapes and sizes
Serving pieces
Candles and candle holders
Low-wattage light bulbs to adjust the ambience of a room
Cocktail size paper napkins in different patterns
