Of Goats and Boats

We all keep our homes in different ways. The basics are the same. We all must eat and wear clean clothes. But we don’t all have the same everyday routines, the same neighborhoods, even the same types of homes!
Just to show you what I mean…
* Does your daily to-do list include milking goats 2x a day? Becky, who writes about an Irish craftworker’s good life, describes a day when she was goat-sitting for a neighbor. Becky knows what’s up because her family had goats of their own not too long ago. She and her family live in Ireland, pick blackberries from hedges, and go rambling in open fields when the weather allows.
* Some people live on boats. Life Aboard and We Live on a Boat are just two of the blogs chronicling life on a boat. Here’s how Strathy, who writes the latter, compares living “on dirt” and living aboard:
Homeowners on dirt pick up leaves and branches from their yard after a wind storm. Live aboards pick up canvas panels that have blown out, wind indicators that have come loose from the top of masts and floating fenders that have come away and floated into your slip.
I wish I could live one day in these homeowner’s shoes. It’s a different life, and I’m sure I would come away richer for the experience.
