Odor-free Cat Litter
If you have a cat in your home, you can make your own odor-free cat litter.
Buy the least expensive, scoopable cat litter you can find. Mix in a small box of baking soda. The baking soda will eliminate odors.

While this sounds like a great idea, there is one drawback. The baking soda in the cat littler gives it a powdery finish that will stick to the cat’s paws. You can then track the prints all around the house.

I didn’t think of that, Mary Jo. I wonder if BankRate realized that when they gave out the reward for the tip. I also wonder if there’s a way to get around it, since baking powder would definitely work for keeping the litter odor-free.

Hi, Mary Jo
Just wanted to add my two cents: I mix it into the litter and it just “disappears.” I haven’t had any problems with cat tracks, and my three kitties haven’t changed their habits at all.
Best,
Shaunna

Hmmmm, that’s good to know. Maybe I put too much in. I’ll have to experiment a little.
