NowDoThis: The To Do List for an Uncluttered Mind

by Maricar on October 14th, 2008

Before I go into the topic of this post, I have two questions for you:

  • Are you online a lot?
  • Do you have a to do list?

If you answered yes to those two questions and want to simplify your life, you have to try NowDoThis.

nowdothisNowDoThis, created by Jakob Lodwick and William Cotton, is the simplest to do list I have ever seen. The site shows only 3 things on a white background:

  • a task
  • a “done” button
  • an “edit list” link

To use the site, first click on “edit list” and enter the list of things you need to do, in the order that you want to do them. Save your list, and the first item appears. When you’re done with that, click “done” and the next task is shown. Once you go through your list, you’re rewarded with a very satisfying “All done!”.

The beauty of this tool is its simplicity. I’ve been guilty of stressing out over the next chore (what’s for dinner?) even as I’m still in the middle of doing another (laundry load #2). Concentrating on only one task at a time has helped me keep my mind uncluttered and conserve mental energy. With this tool, I can forget about the other tasks on my list because I literally don’t see them! And it feels so good to click on that “done” button.

NowDoThis also comes with tabs. You can customize these tabs to suit your needs, whether it’s to manage several projects or to keep a list of things you need to do later.

why is it when I try to go to the site, I get the message:

This is kinda how I do things in my head! I make one goal at a time and try to get it done while working around being a mom. Then if it gets completed, I move on to something else.

Wow. I need to do this. Maybe I could get more done… Or maybe not.

I spend way too much time online. My list is in my head and never gets all done.

Nice! I have the bad habit of making lists that take up two columns for an entire page of paper — and then I just get frustrated before I even begin.

I may just give this a try, though I must say that I find these online To DO lists, just one more thing on my To Do List.

Is there a Done button for when I add the TO DO items to to the To Do List? :)

That’s pretty funny. My mom always told me when looking at my messy room and feeling overwhelmed, “Just pick one thing up and put it back in its place. When you see how easy that was, move onto the next. The key is one thing at a time.”
