My Current Project: Closet Organization
I havent gone through our (my hubbys and mine) old clothes in a while. But lately, Ive had time to tackle the job. I pulled out clothes we havent worn in a long time, clothes I hope we never have to wear again, clothes that dont fit anymore, clothes I never really liked. I had to do it in stages, since there were some items that seemed to avoid elimination during the first round. Afterwards, lo and behold, our closet is roomy and I have all these hangers available. Ive long ago gotten rid of wire hangers (yes, theyre free from the dry cleaners but theyre flimsy, ugly and get tangled all too easily). Now, I plan to coordinate the remaining hangers and use only white plastic ones. I read somewhere that using hangers of only one color will make a closet look instantly neat. Ill relegate the other colored hangers to the guest room.
I found some buried treasures during this project. I didnt want to get rid of a couple of skirts that are too long to be in fashion. So, I asked my mom to trim them to a more flattering length. Now theyre like new, and Im excited to wear them again!
I havent decided yet what Ill do with the old clothes. Garage sale? Donations to the local shelter? At any rate, having all that new space in our closet gives a really great feeling. Like the shedding of old cares, its almost therapeutic. :)

This is one task I often find difficult to do. Especially parts about getting rid of stuff. :-)

more on closet organizing, sis.
i find that putting shirts by color and type is also great! it helped my love and me to see that most of his shirts are blue Izod polos and mine are red-pink blouses! so next time we shopped, we know not to buy these anymore. also, now we DO hang all our clothes. meaning, not just blouses and skirts, or pants and dress shirts but T-shirts, poloshirts, and we hang then straight from the dryer. it freed space in the dresser, we know what we have by sight, and no "folded shirt" creases.
