More Trends for Your Home and Garden
These are the trends to follow this year for both the home and garden, according to Beverly Fortune of the Belleville News Democrat:
- Organization, not clutter
“People want more elaborate closets with specific places to store shoes, stack sweaters, hang jackets and suits,” said Tom Kelly, president of the Home Builders Association of Lexington, Ky.
I certainly say “yes!” to that. Having everything in its place starts with having a place for everything.
- Granite countertops
- Home offices (My ideal home office would be located near the kitchen, maybe a bit of space in a large laundry/pantry area.)
- Brighter, bolder colors in the garden
Jamie Dockery, extension agent for horticulture in Kentucky’s Fayette County Cooperative Extension Service, said colors will come from tropical plants and annuals. Achieve color not just with flowers, but with foliage plants like coleus that comes in shades of purple, red, yellow and chartreuse.
- Container gardening
- Hardwood and ceramic tile floors
- A “keeping room” in the kitchen, where people can interact (Didn’t they call this the “breakfast nook” before?)
- Native plants and heirlooms
- Moving to fashionable downtown areas (The article specifically mentioned empty nesters as doing the relocating. But, I’m guessing other generations would find improved downtowns to be ideal locations, as well.)
There you go! Some things to think about in re-decorating your house and surroundings.
