Mod Podge

Mod Podge

I’ve recently discovered Mod Podge for my papercrafting hobby. Apparently, this is an old crafting secret, having been invented in the 1960s. But I’m new to it and am still discovering uses for it. Aside from it being the ultimate all-around craft glue (great for kids’ crafts!), I found two additional uses for it:

- I repaired book spines that have fallen apart after years of use. I just applied Mod Podge to the back of the pages and the spine using a foam brush. My book’s now good as new!

- I made a notepad from scrap paper. I’m always in need of paper for taking down notes, phone reminders and grocery lists. I used Mod Podge to make my own paper pad from a set of old unused planner pages. I stacked the pages together and applied several layers of Mod Podge to one edge. It’s a great way to re-use paper and keep pages together.

Here are some trivia about this wonder glue:

The inventor of Mod Podge is Jan Wetstone who developed it in her garage.

The name came from the term “Modern Decoupage.”

It’s a glue, a sealer and a finish all in one. The waterbased formula dries clear and is non-toxic.

I can’t bear to throw away a worn out book even if it’s been read hundreds of times…especially if I’ve read it my children those times.

Do you think ModPodge will work on baby board books the way you described?

I didn’t even think of the dilapidated board books we have!!! :) I’ll try the Mod Podge on them and let you know. Thanks for reminding me.

Debbie, I think Mod Podge is a great product to have around the house. How’d your box project go?
