Keeping the Castle - Housekeeping & Homemaking Tips

Martha Stewart

by Maricar on May 23rd, 2005

I did a Google search of “celebrity homemaker” and got results dominated by, who else, Martha Stewart. While I wasn’t exactly looking for information about her, I decided to go ahead and find out more about one of the premier domestic divas today. Mainly, I was interested in how she accumulated the wealth of homemaking information that she shares in her magazine, shows and books.

Here’s an excerpt from her biography on Essortment.com:

Martha’s mother taught her how to cook. They had large Christmas celebrations and Martha and her mother baked and decorated cookies. Martha also learned the art of canning and preserving at her grandparents’ home in Buffalo, New York. She spent some summers there as a child. They taught Martha how to preserve and can vegetables and fruits. These are skills that would prove to be important in her life.

Martha Stewart really does know her stuff from experience. For more information on her life, visit some of her biographies available online:

I think Martha is amazing. I know she’s been reviled for her less than honest business dealings but no one can deny that her empire is one of the most creative and classy around.

I wrote an homage to Martha in my personal blog earlier this year - http://www.livejournal.com/...

Hi Lei, Martha Stewart is indeed one of the most influential people in the art of homemaking today. It’s sad that she let herself be involved in shady dealings, but she has taken the consequences of her actions with dignity. And for that, in addition to her many talents, she really deserves credit.
