Making Homemade Ice Cream

I tried to make our own ice cream yesterday. We bought an electric ice cream maker by Rival, and used soy milk. That was my first attempt, which turned out not quite so creamy, but enough to satisfy a toddler’s craving.
It was fascinating to watch the ice cream being made. It was freezing right before my eyes! I tried out a recipe I found online that used bananas to add flavor. I think I’d like to try an avocado-flavored ice cream next. We’ve already made avocado popsicles, which were a hit, so I think the flavor will be good for ice cream too.
I could really get into the whole homemade ice cream fun, if only the ice cream maker wasn’t so noisy. I’m wondering if this is normal. If my blender sounded like that, I would be worried. The thing actually sounds broken, but it runs.
Do you have an ice cream maker? I’d love to hear about your own experience with it. And, if you have a milk-free ice cream recipe, I’d love to borrow it too!

I’ve been scouring the web for recipes that I can use, and have finally realized that vegan resources might be just what I need. [...]
