Knitting for the Home

Pink knitting in front of pink sweatshirt

I’ve recently taken up knitting. By recently, I mean yesterday! :)

I have a tiny bit of knitting experience, courtesy of homemaking classes in high school. I remember I knitted a gigantic navy and white sweater as my class project. It never fit anybody I knew so it languished on a closet floor. I think I eventually unraveled it, but I don’t remember what I used the yarn for.

So yesterday, I went to look at sewing machines at Joann’s. Sewing is another thing I’d like to do, but that’s another post, when and if I finally get a machine. So back to knitting… I’ve been thinking of taking up needles for a while now, and finally got a #6 pair and a ball of soft boucle yarn. This type of yarn, BTW, is perfect for beginners, because the knobs on it hide imperfections and uneven stitches.

My first project is a scarf. I struggled a bit with casting on using the two-needle method. I should have watched this video on YouTube first, and things would have started easier for me:

I think the domesticity bug has bitten me anew, and now I want to knit a whole bunch of projects for my home! But first, I have to finish the scarf and see how that turns out.

I love to knit! I have a backlog of fiber I need to spin first, though. :/ If I only gave up sleep all together I could get it done…

Hi Marye, wow, you spin your own fiber? I can’t even begin to think about doing that. But I’m enjoying knitting so far! It’s a great way to keep busy even when I’m “idle”. :)

I just used Boucle yarn for the first time. I somehow seem to have lost all but a huge set of knitting needles (size 15 or something!) I decided to go ahead and try to make a scarf with it. When you need to knit, you need to knit.

Well, the yarn does hide imperfections, so that’s good. But the scarf ended up way too wide. Because it’s so airy it can be folded, though. I think my daughter inlaw will like it just fine. It is really easy yarn to work with. Now, if I could only find my cache of knitting needles!
