Kitchen Essentials

What’s essential for a well-equipped kitchen will be different depending on who you ask. But this list by Mary Vuong pretty much covers the basic necessities, I think.
Cookware: saucepan (2 or 3 quarts), skillet (8 to 12 inches) and stockpot (8 or 10 quarts). Get those that are made of heavy stainless-steel, perhaps with copper bottoms. You can forego the stockpot and get a pasta pot, instead if you need it more.
Knives: chef’s, serrated or bread, and paring knives are the basic.
Other dishes: A general-purpose baking dish or roasting pan, a Dutch oven for those who use slow-cooking.
Multipurpose tools: microplane grater, vegetable peeler, silicone spatulas and tongs.
For a more complete kitchen, you can add any of the following, depending on your cooking style: food processor, stand mixer, mandoline, vegetable mill, immersion blender, pepper grinder, Pyrex measuring cups and bakeware, spatulas, turners and whisks.
