How to Throw Away Magazines, and Still Save Your Favorite Articles

by Maricar on August 23rd, 2007

magazinesI want to throw away some of the old magazines I have lying around. They’re just occupying space, and I doubt I’ll ever read them again anyway. However, some of them do have articles that I like. That’s why I saved them in the first place. So I decided to go through one magazine per day. Why just one? It’s just simpler to manage, that’s all. Takes all of 5 minutes.

I picked up an old issue, quickly flipped through it to read just the titles, and tore out the pages that I want to save. Then I threw away the magazine without a second thought.

The question then becomes, what happens to the pages I tore out?

You’ll see them on this blog, that’s what. :) Blogs are great repositories of information I want to save, and search for later. It’s free and takes up no physical space in my home, while virtually offering unlimited storage. If you don’t have a blog, it’s free and easy to set one up at Wordpress or similar sites.

Next up, a recipe I tore out of an old magazine.

This is a great idea, except for one thing.

Are you concerned about potential copyright violations if you put content from old magazines on your blog?

Hi Bob, if I were to type the entire article verbatim into this blog, then I would have to worry about copyright violations. That is not what I plan to do. Instead, I will incorporate the information from the article into a post, and also acknowledge the source of that information.

That sounds like a great idea, I can’t begin to tell you how many old magazines I have. I’m pretty sure there’s not a room in the house without a stack of magazines in it.
