How to Care for Bed Linen

by Maricar on February 27th, 2006

A short but useful list of pointers for cleaning bed linen, from Mary Beth Breckenridge:

1. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. - That’s a lot of pointers in one sentence. Included in those tags would be instructions to either machine-wash or dry clean the sheets. If washable by machine, the temperatures for washing and drying should also be indicated.

2. For comforters, quilts and mattress pads, consider using a commercial large-capacity machine if they don’t fit in the one in your home. Toss a few dry, clean towels or white tennis balls in the dryer to fluff the comforters during the drying cycle.

3. Wash two pillows simultaneously for a couple of minutes on the gentle cycle. Dry them in short intervals, with fluffing in-between.
