Keeping the Castle - Housekeeping & Homemaking Tips

Getting Rich by Being Frugal

I used to share homemaking quotes here at Keeping the Castle, and I figured it’s about time I started again. Here’s one from Arthur Gates, on frugal living:

“Getting rich is not about how much money (you) spend, but about how much money you keep.”

Gates shares his observations on how the millionaires he knows live:

- They drive old cars.

- They buy modest-sized houses.

- They don’t wear suits and other expensive clothes unless necessary.

- They live well but with less money and more practicality than pizzazz.

I’ve read the book, The Millionaire Next Door (aff.) by Stanley and Danko, which pretty much says the same thing. Majority of the millionaires in America live frugal lives. You wouldn’t know just from looking at them that they’re wealthy. (Find out what the prototypical American millionaire is like in this excerpt from the book.)

So, Gates says, if you want to get rich, act like these millionaires. “Start living below your means and you’ll see your wealth grow much faster.”

Be frugal. It’s the road to wealth.
