Gardening Tips to Get You Started

Some good ideas “to bring out your inner green thumb”:

* Choose annual plants that are short and bushy, with lots of leaves and no flowers yet.
* Soak terra-cotta pots in water at least 20 minutes before using them.
* To control invasive plants, “plant them in terra cotta chimney-flue tiles. Use a tile  at least 4 inches wider than the plant’s root ball. Sink the tile into the soil so that the lip sticks out 1 inch.”
* Give plants better water by letting tap water sit in open containers for at least 48 hours.
