Cool Tips for Getting Your Garden to Thrive
Ah, it’s the middle of winter here, gardening is not foremost in my mind. But I can’t help but imagine the possibilities with these tips and tools from Inside Bay Area. Besides, despite how it looks outside my window, I know that somewhere in this earth, someone’s enjoying gardening season.
Bold Colors
Outdoor areas are following the home decorating trend of fruity and fun colors… limes, oranges and apricot hues.
Million Bells
This is a low-maintenance variety of petunia by grower Proven Winners.
“These are perennials that are long-blooming, from spring through fall,” (Western Garden Nursery manager Aires) Souto says. “They’re like small little petunia flowers that are self-cleaning.” Self-cleaning blossoms don’t require pruning; they just shrivel up and fall off.
“Self-cleaning” makes this a plant of choice for me.
Ergonomic Tools

Bionic gloves… wrist-friendly cultivators… oooh, yummy colors too!
Beneficial Fungi
Introducing mycorrhizae to your soil helps roots better absorb water and nutrients, and make plants more tolerant to drought.

Environmental Consciousness
Organic gardening and water-wise plants are becoming more mainstream. Love your garden, love the earth you live in.
