Cooking Just for Two
It’s a challenge to cook just for one or two people when most recipes are for 4 or 6 servings. For singles and couples who have no children, the choice often comes down to eating out or repeating meals to the nth degree. But for those who really want to enjoy a home-cooked meal, resources are available for downsizing meal portions without sacrificing taste.
Take the cooking magazine Taste of Home, for example. The people behind the magazine has a new version called Taste of Home’s Cooking for 2, which is “an expansion of what had been just a monthly feature”.
“We kept getting letters saying, ‘We love that section. There are only two of us now,’ ” said Ann Kaiser, managing editor of Taste of Home, which is based in Greendale, Wis. “Baby boomers are part of the group, along with singles and newlyweds. People would say, ‘I’ve got wonderful recipes, but I don’t know how to reduce them.’ “
