Coming Back to a Welcoming Home
The entire family just came back from an out-of-state trip to attend a cousin’s wedding. It was a nice reunion, seeing relatives I haven’t seen in years. In the midst of the festivities, there was a lot of catching-up to do. We came back from our trip happy but tired. It was good to come back to a welcoming home.
As I always do before going on trips like these, I had tried to do as much housekeeping as I can squeeze in between packing. I did all the laundry, since the one thing I knew we’d bring back from the trip was dirty clothes. There were no dirty dishes anywhere. In general, the house was in a good shape to be left in.
It’s just nice to come back after a vacation and not feel assaulted by the urgency of chores the moment you step in the door. It makes the “vacation feeling” last a little longer. Taking the extra effort before the trip is worth it. We always say “It’s good to be home” after leaving for some time. But it’s extra wonderful to come back to a clean haven.
