Keeping the Castle - Housekeeping & Homemaking Tips

A Break from Housework

by Maricar on July 4th, 2005

Today, the fourth of July, is a holiday in the U.S. The long weekend might have been the perfect time to catch up on housework. I have to be honest and say that it was actually the contrary for me. I declared a no-work holiday in our home. Of course, we did the routine little chores like cooking and dishwashing. Even a little bit of laundry. But no heavy stuff like cleaning out the garage. Keeping a home is a job in itself, and like any other, those who do it need a break every now and then. I had to have my three-day weekend too. ;)

So it was a quiet and relaxed day. As soon as the baby was asleep, my hubby, my mom (who’s visiting) and myself caught up with our respective hobbies. It was a short break, but it was a good break. Housework is something that simply never gets finished. There’s always a chore that calls out to be done. Never having a break from it could lead to stress. Of course, this should not be an excuse to forever be on hiatus from chores. But once in while, we all need to refresh and recharge ourselves. Today was a mini-vacation so that we’ll be ready to tackle tomorrow’s jobs, whether it’s an office job or housework.
